Your alarm system communicates to our central station via a wireless link to the nearest cell tower. Sometimes due to a storm, maintenance, or high volume your alarm system may have an issue communicating with the cell tower. This is when you will receive a communications failure or "Did Not Test" (DNT) message.
If you start to receive communication failures or DNTs every day it is most likely because the local cellular company has removed the older 3G services and has moved to LTE and 5G.
So, what exactly is 3G?
3G is a generation of wireless mobile communication that many cellular carriers use. It provides internet to mobile devices. With the launches of LTE and 5G technology, there are now faster and more efficient ways to transfer data across the world.
Starting in 2022 many of the carriers will be shutting down their 3G networks and only supporting the new LTE and 5G networks.
If your system is more than a couple of years old, chances are it has a 3G cellular communicator and will stop working sometime during 2022. At Janellli Security we are committed to getting your system back up and running as quickly as possible. If you received a message or your panel is displaying a message about a communication failure, please call our office so we can schedule an update. In many cases, the update will take less than an hour.
